Size matters
There are ways to dress that to help you appear taller or bulkier. For men, it can be tough being short or very slim. A tailor you trust can always provide good advice on what to wear for your body type. Custom made suits are typically more flattering to your body than an off-the-rack men’s suit.
Here are some tips to help you alter your appearance.
Don’t wear a belt or wear one that blends in with the colour of your clothing – having one long continuous line without drawing attention to the middle of your body can make you appear taller.

Shirts to the rescue
Dress shirts can be a big help if you are height-challenged:
Vertically striped shirts – horizontal stripes can make you look heavier, while vertical ones can add length.
Collars – a narrow collar is a better choice if you want to look taller, while a wide collar widens your frame.
If you want to appear bulkier, in casual encounters, unbutton the first button of your shirt. The two ends of the collar will spread out, widening your frame – this doesn’t work with a mandarin collar because the pointed edges are not part of the design.
How the shirt fits can also alter your appearance. A regular fit shirt will make you look wider, while a slim fit one can make you look taller and you may also look younger, if that is the look you’re going after.
Colours
Dark colors, especially black, will make anyone look smaller and slimmer. If you want to appear taller and stronger, go for shirts in bold colours and in white. Wearing clothes of the same shades and hues is a good trick to elongate the body – people will see your body in one continuous line. Pants and shoes of matching colors will make you appear to have longer legs. Avoid contrasting colors.
Seeking advice from a knowledgeable tailor who can adjust your suits or shirts can always make a difference.
